Failed an LLQP Module? Rewrite Rules and the 12-Month Clock
If you fail a module you can rewrite it. The rules below are the Insurance Council of BC's, checked 12 Oct 2026; other provinces publish their own.
Waiting periods in BC (from 1 July 2024)
| Unsuccessful attempts | Waiting period |
|---|---|
| After 1st, 2nd or 3rd attempt | None |
| After 4th attempt | 1 year |
BC applies its waiting period even if earlier attempts were in another province, and you must disclose previous attempts when you register.
The 12-month clocks
- Your LLQP course certificate is valid for 12 months. Once it expires you cannot write any module until you retake the course.
- You must pass all required modules within 12 months of the first module you pass.
- You must obtain your licence within 12 months of the first module passed, or rewrite the modules that fall outside that period.
What to do after a fail
- Look at your mark: a near miss needs targeted review, a low mark needs a restudy.
- Drill the components that cost you marks with timed component drills.
- Pass two or three fresh timed mocks before you rebook.
